Valentine Public School has a long history of instrumental music as part of our school community. The school maintains its reputation as having amongst the highest achieving primary band programs in the region.
Junior Band is open to year 3 students and students new to music. Our Senior Band is for students in years 4-6.
Students benefit in many ways from their experience in band, not just by developing stronger musical understanding and instrumental skills. The opportunity enables students to further their organisational skills, confidence, creativity, friendships and cooperation. This often has a flow on effect of improving achievement in other areas.
Students commit to attending all rehearsals and playouts. Performances include in-school events, the Bandfest competition, Christmas Carols in Valentine and culminating in the Year 6 Solos Night at the end of each year. Opportunities in enriching workshop events are also offered each year.
Information regarding things such as band uniforms, expectations and fees is forwarded to parents early in the year. Parents are encouraged to come along and be part of the Band Committee to support the band. Meetings are held regularly on Mondays at 7pm.
