Valentine Public School boasts a state of the art Media Centre. This centre for dynamic learning promotes an innovative approach to inquiry based teaching and learning. This shared learning space has been designed to support the 21st century learner in the acquisition and demonstration of critical, creative and reflective thinking, supporting the construction of knowledge and connections between concept and real world learning through the equitable and ethical use of modern technologies.
Within the Media Centre students across the K-6 student community are scaffolded through cross curricular learning to develop skills within digital, communication and technological literacies utilizing a range of 21st century technological tools and concepts which within the Media Centre. These tools and concepts include our Genius Bar consisting of 20 laptops, over 30 iPads, 3D printer, Green Screen, filming equipment and facilities, LED lit "Battle Bots" Robot Arena, interactive walls, Coding, a variety of Codeable robots, Lego Mindstorm, digital game design and creation, Virtual Reality room, STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematical) challenges and design concepts as well as research skills.
Students can further engage with robotics, engineering and design skills, filming and Green Screening by attending lunchtime filming and robotics Clubs which are run out of the Media Centre.
T4L Awards - WINNERS!
During 2018 Valentine Public School entered the NSW Department of Education's Technology For Learning (T4L) awards in the category of ‘Leader in Digital / Makerspace Technologies'. This category recognises leaders in the application of maker space and digital technology tools across the curriculum and learning landscape. A judging panel representing ITD, the Primary principals Association and the Secondary Principals Council as well as the departments Learning and Business Systems directorate and an external industry representative determined the 2018 winners in ten different categories. The T4L awards recognise and celebrate leading and innovative practice in the use of technology by a NSW public school or teacher. The award winners in each of the areas are not only inspiring and leading change locally, but are also leading or participating in online and physical communities of practice that develop the skills of the teaching profession and inspire organisation-wide change.
